Coyotes Rally Past Capilano to Earn First-Ever PACWEST Medal and Gold Medal Berth

The Okanagan Coyotes women’s basketball team made history Friday afternoon, storming back in the fourth quarter to defeat the second-seeded Capilano Blues 82–73 and punch their ticket to the PACWEST gold medal game.

Down heading into the final frame, the Coyotes erupted with a 28–11 run, shooting a scorching 52.9% in the quarter. Jordan Kemper led the charge with a game-high 26 points, while Paloma Niz Velazquez delivered a clutch performance, scoring 11 of her 20 points in the fourth and going 11-for-12 from the line.

OC finished the game shooting 39% overall and locked in their first-ever PACWEST medal. They now advance to Saturday’s championship matchup at 5:30 PM.

Capilano had controlled much of the game, shooting 41.5% from the field. Mackenzie Smith tallied 17 points, and Jenna Griffin added 15, but the Blues couldn’t hold off the Coyotes’ late surge. They’ll now compete for bronze on Saturday at 12:30 PM.
